Who We Are and How to Find Us.
SSDFMS is a registered non-profit organization. It is made up of members who elect officers once each year in September. Our officers are: President, Music Director, Treasurer and Newsletter Editor. Additionally, five board members are elected and together they make up the Board of Directors of our society. The Board of Directors meets occasionally to direct the focus of the group, approve expenditures and discuss marketing our performance group. Being a non-profit organization, we rely upon the donations we receive from performing for local groups, including libraries, historical societies, community centers, retirement homes and park districts.
Our performance group is made up of members who feel confident enough in their abilities to perform publicly, sometimes in front of large audiences. We've performed for groups smaller than our own, to groups occupying large banquet rooms. Some of our venues include: The Park Forest Library, Folks on Spokes Easter Ride, Lansing Library, Calumet Historical Society, Peotone Church, Smith Crossing, Stickney Library, Woodbridge Library and Faith United Protestant Church. Anyone performing with our group must attend the monthly practices held on the second Monday of each month, 7:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Park Forest, IL.
Our monthly meetings are an evening of music and fun, usually ending with a snack and some friendly conversation. It's all very casual, and everyone is welcome...whether you play an instrument or not, are interested in learning, or just want to listen. Most of our meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month (November and December are sometimes exceptions) at 7:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2901 Western Ave., Park Forest, Illinois.
